The initial idea of establishing the University of Tabriz born a year after the termination of the threatening international catastrophe; the second world war and took shape very soon on 12th June 1946. The newly-established educational institution started its activities under the former name of Azerbaycan Universiteti (University of Azerbaijan) in Tabriz City with only three Faculties of Medicine, Agriculture and Pedagogy... Presently (academic year 2001-2002) there are 5 fields of study in Higher-diploma, 60 fields of study in Bachelor's degree, 59 fields of study in Master's degree and 36 fields of study in Ph.D. (totaling 153 fields of study) at the University of Tabriz. From among the total number of students, now exceeding 10000, engaged in various major and specific fields of study, some 293 students are studying for higher diploma, 7339 students are studying for undergraduate degree, 755 students are attending evening courses (studying for undergraduate degree), 862 students studying for graduate degree and 147 students are accomplishing their Ph.D. requirements...
